Delegates from Ufa Eye Research Institute, led by its Director, Professor Mukharram Bikbov, took part in the 5th International Ophthalmological Congress (IOC-2025), held on October 3-4, 2025, in Samarkand (Uzbekistan).

The Congress brought together over 1,000 participants from 35 countries. Major challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of anterior and posterior segment diseases were discussed with leading Russian and foreign experts.

The scientific program covered a wide range of topics related to the diagnosis and management of corneal diseases, cataract, glaucoma, retinal diseases, vision correction, and others.

Professor M.Bikbov served as a co-chair of a plenary session, where he presented a report "The Evolutionary Path of Keratoplasty Development"

For the first time, a separate session was held by Ufa Eye Research Institute specialists, featuring the following presentations:

Emin Usubov, Head of the Cornea and Lens Surgery Department, moderated the session.

The congress also featured video poster presentations. Leisan Gilemzianova, presented a video report on the population-based "Ural Very Old Study, which demonstrated unique data obtained from examining individuals aged 85+ years — one of the least studied age groups in ophthalmology. The project was recognized as one of the best works and was awarded a special prize. This accolade acknowledges the significance of the research and the high quality of the presented material.

The congress was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, providing an excellent opportunity to gain new knowledge, exchange experiences and practice.
